Hillcrest Chapel (Hamilton) has been steadily building a presence in its local community through a series of family-focused events held throughout the year. These gatherings have become something that many families in the community look forward to.
This past Easter Saturday, around 100 people came along for an afternoon of games, crafts, hot cross buns, and an Easter egg hunt. The highlight was a walk-through experience based on Carl Laferton’s picture story book The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross.
Families explored the Easter story by moving through interactive stations that brought the story to life in a hands-on, accessible way.
Many attendees were from the wider community. Events like this, one of four held each year, have gradually helped build relationships and a sense of familiarity with the community, creating a welcoming space where families feel comfortable returning.
One family summed it up simply: “We love your church! We come to all your events. They are so great - family-friendly and always fun and welcoming.”
