A crowd gathered at Laidlaw College’s Henderson Campus last Friday to celebrate the launch of Dr John Hitchen’s latest book, ‘Reclaiming the Good News.’
Dr John Hitchen has a rich legacy of serving within and from the Open Brethren Heritage movement of churches in New Zealand. This includes pastoral work with Rutland Street Church (then Rutland Street Chapel), cross-cultural work in Papua New Guinea with GC3, serving as a GC3 Board Member, and many years in theological education and training—notably as Laidlaw College’s National Principal from 1990 – 1998.
Laidlaw College writes:
“Reclaiming the Good News distils a lifetime of reflection on how to share the good news of Jesus in a culturally engaging way. Drawing inspiration from the Apostle Paul, John M. Hitchen provides guidance on how we might live out the gospel to have an impact in a variety of contexts. Hitchen then demonstrates how these principles can apply to specific situations, from politics and business to death and loss. Reclaiming the Good News is a must read for thoughtful believers who want to prepare themselves and others to fulfill the Great Commission.”
Dr Hitchen was joined by Laidlaw Faculty and Staff at the book launch, including Theology and Missions Lecturer Rebecca De Jong, National Principal Dr Roshan Allpress, and Partnerships Administrator Kyla Scrimgeour (who are all part of Lincoln Road Bible Chapel). The crowd had an opportunity to hear from Dr Hitchen and other speakers and participate in discussion about the book.
