Te Awamutu Bible Chapel held their Kingdoms Holiday Programme last week. They share how they’ve seen God at work throughout the week.
This was an outreach event, aimed at building on the relationships being established by their 24-7 Tamariki Tipu Youth Workers in the local primary and intermediate schools.
The goal was to provide a low-cost holiday childcare option whilst sharing Jesus with the community. Around 60 children attended each day as together they searched for the ‘Ultimate King,’ culminating in a gospel presentation. Several children responded to the good news of Jesus and received Bibles.
A grandmother raising her grandkids brought them along to the programme, and her grandson responded to the gospel. He chose a Bible and got stuck in. They have made connections so far with Rally and the local Christian school.
Another child expressed their delight at finally “getting it” and choosing to make her own decision for Christ.
The whole church was behind this kaupapa, with people of all ages contributing where they could, from baking to running games and crafts. A large component of the week was the equipping of youth leaders who received their own Biblical teaching and leadership training throughout the week.
The programme was met with lots of positive feedback from children and adults alike with many families booking in for extra days or bringing their friends the next day. The week ended with a community BBQ where community families enjoyed free kai and kōrero alongside church folk.
One church family invited their 10yo neighbour along to the programme, and he decided to follow Jesus during the week. With the support of his mum, he came to church for the first time after the programme had finished.
