Kingston Community Church in Palmerston North welcomed 65 children to their Term 2 holiday programme, they share how their programme is growing young leaders and welcoming local families.
Our Term 2 School Holiday Programme saw us joined by 18 youth leaders and a number of volunteers from across our church, with one volunteer even taking annual leave from work to serve throughout the week. Kerry led our leaders' training, focusing on what it means to lead and love like Jesus as we serve others.
It has been a joy to continue building meaningful relationships with children and parents, with many familiar faces from our local community returning each holiday. These ongoing relationships provide opportunities to show God's love through our welcome, hospitality, and care.
A highlight of the week was opening the Bible together and sharing the story of Jonah and the hope of the gospel. During one session we asked the question, "What do we need saving from?" A child from a Sikh family, who first connected with us through our Homework Club, raised his hand and answered, "Sin." Moments like this are an encouragement as we seek to faithfully share the good news of Jesus with the 65 children who attended, the majority of whom are from our local community.
The programme is also a valuable leadership development opportunity for our young people. Each morning, before the children arrive, our youth leaders gather for training and learn about what it means to serve others, lead well, and reflect the love of Jesus.
At the conclusion of the programme, we invite children and families to continue exploring faith and connection through our ongoing ministries, including our primary-aged girls' and boys' groups and youth ministry. We are thankful for another opportunity to serve our community, build relationships, and share the hope we have in Christ.
