For more than two decades, the men of Pakuranga Christian Fellowship (PCF) have gathered around breakfast tables every second month. The ingredients are simple: great food, conversation, singing, testimonies, and a short message from God's Word. But beneath the surface, something deeper is taking place.
While many in the church are involved in fortnightly youth studies, adult fellowship groups and more, the Mens' Breakfast offers a unique opportunity for discipleship and fellowship.
Fathers and sons attend together. Youth are given opportunities to serve. Men who no longer attend church are welcomed back into fellowship without pressure. Younger and older men sit together, share their stories, and learn from one another.
PCF elder Vijay Prasad says "the vision is rooted in Hebrews 10:24-25: encouraging one another toward love and good deeds and meeting together regularly."
He says that what began as a breakfast ministry in 2002 has become "a community where lasting friendships are formed and faith is strengthened. We identify who can participate in saying grace or leading a game, and support them to step up." By intentionally developing the next generation, PCF is finding these small opportunities build confidence and create space for spiritual growth.
PCF is also strengthening connection with other CCCNZ churches, as they invite others along as guest speakers. Last year, Manurewa Bible Church elder Lloyd Vivian spoke at breakfast, and Northcross Church's Stephen Munn is coming to the next breakfast event as a guest speaker.
