Coopers Beach Christian Youth Camp ran its annual Girls Camp with the theme, ‘Words that Changed Everything!’
80 girls, leaders, and volunteers came together at the Northland Camp during the October holidays, with some traveling from Auckland and the Bay of Plenty to help as leaders.
Lynley Fleming says they’re blessed with such a dedicated team from different churches, including leaders from Kaitaia Bible Chapel. Key speaker Felicity Mason and games coordinator Jess Cornwell are both from Manurewa Bible Church.
“Felicity is from Auckland, but she travels up every year and has done this with me for 16 years now. She brought the messages to the girls and the questions that we received from the girls during the session and after the question time at camp were just so thoughtful and deep. It was really encouraging to see the words sinking in and generating thought. That was really exciting."
“We also had Jess from Auckland to run all our games for us. That was a real encouragement too, to have somebody so keen to come and run all the games for us. The girls absolutely loved her games.”
Lynley says Girls Camp is a great opportunity for girls to grow in faith, and in leadership.
“It’s a great opportunity to grow in all areas, whether it's serving, whether it's listening, whether it's being an organiser.”
The theme unpacked the words Jesus said, and why he said them. And Lynley says a highlight was question time.
“The depth of the questions was amazing. We had a panel that answered them, including leaders (who are aged 14-18) as well. The leaders stepped up and answered the ones that they could, which was exciting to see them in front of campers and answering questions.”
