Reading the book of Ruth in the Old Testament typically takes about 10-15 minutes.
However, truly understanding the depth of God’s message within this narrative requires much more time and contemplation.
In February, ten individuals from four different churches (Chapel Hill Community Church, Hillcrest Chapel, Raleigh Street Christian Centre, and Manawarū Bible Chapel) experienced this first-hand during a Fellowship of the Word training session hosted at Chapel Hill Community Church.
While exploring principles for effective Bible study, they delved into Ruth, uncovering unexpected insights and learning from one another.
Fellowship of the Word equips participants with vital skills for in-depth Bible study that can be applied in personal reflection, home groups, discipleship, and various other contexts.
Most importantly, these skills enable us to discover what God communicates through his word, moving beyond surface-level reading.
Grant Birks, CCCNZ Waikato/Bay of Plenty Regional Enabler, writes:
“This time of shared learning focused on deepening their knowledge of God and growing in their understanding of Scripture.
“Together, they immersed themselves in the book of Ruth, exploring principles of good Bible study and practical application. A special source of encouragement was the enthusiasm of a newly converted believer, whose eagerness to discover God through his Word uplifted and inspired the group.”
Many shared how much they gained, not only from the story of Ruth (which they realised is more about Naomi), but also in enhancing their confidence and ability to study Scripture more effectively.
One participant reflected on how much more they learned through being taught solid principles that helped them discover God’s Word and being able to study Scripture as a community of God’s people.
