Canterbury First Training was run over the King's birthday weekend, with more than 20 young people from Rutland Street Church, Riccarton Community Church and Halswell Community Church joining in.
First Training is focused on equipping and giving leadership training to year 12-13s (16 to 18 years old). Topics such as ‘The call to leadership’, ‘Leading ourselves’, and ‘Gospel fluency’ were very well received.
Each teaching session is followed by a small group discussion, which often leads to youth wrestling with the topic in a practical, real-life way.
Craig Barrow, CCCNZ Youth and Young Adults, writes:
“Each afternoon, the youth spread out around the camp to spend an hour alone with the Lord. For most young people, this is an entirely new experience. They are given some ideas on how to pray during this time, good Bible passages to read and so on.
“After we come back together, the feedback is so amazing, with many youth loving this personal time with the Lord, dwelling in his Word.”
The weekend also included some downtime, filled with far too many rounds of ‘Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza' and other games.
