Tenei te ki nei te Kaiwhakaatu o enei mea, Na, ka hohoro ano toku haere atu.
‘Ua fai mai le molimau i nei mea, “E moni, ‘ou te vave alu atu.”
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Revelation 22:20 (a)
Look with me at Revelation 1:1: “The revelation of Jesus Christ.”
This whole book is about Jesus—who he is, what he’s doing, and what he’s going to do.
In 1:13 Jesus says:
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
These aren’t new titles. “Alpha and Omega” and “Beginning and End” show up earlier in Revelation (1:8 and 21:6). And “First and Last” is used three times in Isaiah (41:4; 44:6; 48:12). Each of these titles is used by God to describe God.
So, what’s Jesus doing? He’s making a massive claim—he’s saying he is God. He is the eternal, divine Son of God: part of the Trinity.
Each of these pairs—Alpha/Omega, First/Last, Beginning/End—are opposites. Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, Omega the last. First and Last. Beginning and End.
Jesus is saying, “That’s me.” “I hold all of time, all of history, everything in between—it’s mine. I’m in charge.”
Then in verse 16, He adds:
“I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
Let’s break that down. The “Root of David” means Jesus came before David—he’s the source. The “Offspring of David” means he also came after David—as a man, the promised Messiah.
So, he’s saying, “I existed before David, but I also came through David’s line.” Jesus is fully God and fully human. The eternal King, with royal blood and divine authority.
Between Revelation 22:7 and 22:21, Jesus says it three times:
“I am coming soon.”
“I am coming soon.”
“I am coming soon.”
These are complex and challenging times. Globally and locally. Jesus wants us to rest our hearts and hopes in this: He is God. He is King. He is coming soon.
