Forty-seven elders and ministry leaders from 13 churches came together on Thursday 7 August at Eden Church to hear Marcus Honeysett from Living Leadership in the UK speak about biblically spiritual leadership.
Marcus’s most recent book ‘Powerful Leaders?’ exposes and explores “How people in positions of authority can be tempted away from a biblical model of leadership into an illegitimate – and, in the worst cases, abusive – use of power.”
The antidote to this kind of destructive leadership is biblically spiritual leadership rooted in and flowing from the joy of the Lord. In table groups, we discussed what this looks like and what we can do as leadership teams to come to a place of delighting in the Lord.
The gathering allowed for a lively discussion of the topic around the tables.
Alistair McNaughton (Papatoetoe Bible Chapel), who attended, found the discussion particularly impactful. He especially appreciated the emphasis on “our joy in Jesus” as a guiding aim and noted he applies some of the principles he heard in his weekly discipleship work at present.
