A plaque unveiling from the oldest (over 100 years herself!) and the youngest (a babe in arms!).
What a privilege to be amongst the church family (past and present) of Rutland Street Church as they celebrated their centenary last weekend.
The opening of the centenary service included a reenactment from 1925. We sang a song from a reproduced hymnal sheet. The notices were from 1972. The recognition of the support and partnership with other Open Brethren Heritage churches in the city was very moving. The overhead projector was rolled out for a song from the 1980s!
Brief interviews throughout the service highlighted God’s grace to the church family over 10 decades.
We looked at the centrality and significance of the gospel from 1 Corinthians 15. Throughout it all, the music team led us to worship God, giving thanks for His immeasurable grace and kindness to the church over a century through Jesus Christ.
Centenary Celebrations included a dinner on the Saturday evening.
South Island Regional Enabler Tim Hodge writes:
"Getting to 100 is always worth marking, and Rutland Street Church's celebrations were joyful and fun, including a bouncy castle, candy floss, barbeque, photos from the 1920s to today (including, I discovered, a photo of my cousin getting married!). I'm grateful to God for Rutland Street Church for many things, including being regular contributors to the CCCNZ network through wisdom, encouragement and finance. All glory to God!"
