During my visit at Cornerstone International Bible Church in Dunedin, it was a privilege to witness two people being baptised, including Alex Kinley. I found Alex’s testimony to be a powerful statement of our participation in Christ:
"I’ve spent most of my adult life being fiercely independent. I’ve always hated the idea of needing help or assistance in any way from anyone which is why I think it took me so long to get to here today. The idea of me not running the show and handing the reigns over to someone else was such a foreign concept.
"But then about six months ago I was feeling pretty lost.
"I didn’t feel like anything I was doing had any meaning and when I thought I was doing the right things I’d fail miserably. I realised that the way I was living my life wasn’t making me happy or heathy.
"This all led to me picking up the bible that Mum got me back in 2016. I started reading through Matthew and came to chapter 11:28-30.
"In this Jesus says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
"This verse really hit me like a truck and I became a Christian that day and being baptised today marks my commitment to living out of the new man which is Jesus Christ within me, and thanks everyone for being here for it."
