Willow Park under construction in the 1930s.
Willow Park Christian Camp celebrates 90 years of Christian camping at Eastern Beach.
In the 1930s, Christian camping was a new way of reaching young people for Jesus and the gospel and it required building from scratch. Now, a variety of camps and events throughout the year cater to all ages and stages of people.
CCCNZ Auckland Enabler Richard Fountain reached out to several local churches to hear how they’ve been blessed by the ministry of Willow Park over the years.
Lloyd Vivian (Manurewa Bible Chapel) says:
“Willow Park has been an enormous blessing to so many over the course of its 90 years of operation. My own mother was saved there as a teenager and she and dad were still being blessed through the ministry of Winter and Summer House Party at the end of their lives. For us at Manurewa Bible Church, Willow Park has been invaluable to us in developing young leaders and seeing our people refreshed and encouraged in their faith. An enormous legacy!”
Anthony Samuels (Tāmaki Community Church) says:
"Tamaki Community Church has been privileged to share many special moments there—the greatest moments are seeing lives changed. Kids coming to know Jesus personally at kids camp, praying for their parents to know Jesus, and later in the year fathers raising their hands in tears saying, 'I want to know who this Jesus is too'"
Friends and supporters of the camp are invited to join a time of celebration to share stories, reflect on God’s faithfulness throughout the journey, and look forward to the future.
