Hillcrest Chapel is an evangelical church congregation affiliated with Christian Community Churches of New Zealand (CCCNZ). Built on our Open Brethren heritage we value devotion to God, His word, and the tenets of the Christian faith as described by the Nicene Creed.

We seek expressions of interest for the role of Youth Pastor. This is a permanent part time role scoped as 0.5 FTE.

The purpose of this role is to support youth into a growing relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. This includes pastoral care, creating safe and welcoming environments for youth to explore faith and supporting the volunteer leadership team. This will be achieved through working with the pastor, eldership, parents of youth and volunteer youth group leaders, as well as the youth themselves.

You will need to get to know and relate well to youth within the Chapel community. This includes children from Chapel families, and others who come along to youth events.

Are you?

  • A faithful follower of Jesus Christ with an established commitment to the Church

  • Someone with a heart for youth and seeing young people both come to and grow in faith in Jesus Christ and seeing them connected into the wider church community.

  • Pastoral in approach with an ability to relate well to youth

  • A firm believer in the intergenerational nature of the church, prepared to work with and alongside all ages and stages, encouraging collaboration, mentoring and personal growth.

  • Aligned with our Chapel vision, mission, and strategy, and the CCCNZ statement of faith.

  • Trained in or willing to be trained in theology and ministry.

  • Able to plan youth activities and events, with an understanding of safety and child protection.

  • Someone who works well with a volunteer team, building effective relationships.

Our church family is looking for a new shepherd, one with a deep love for God and his people, who is called to lead a small faith community.   We respond to bible based Jesus centred preaching, we pray and care for each other and we look to spread God’s love into the wider community through His word and our works.

We would expect that you are qualified to preach and teach, that you have an ability to lead but you can also work collegially with the eldership and ministry leaders. You will be sensitive to the needs of our church congregation and show Christ’s love to those within and outside the church.

The Lighthouse Church is located in Masterton, a large town in the beautiful Wairarapa. It started in 1997 as an off-shoot of the local Open Brethren church to reach out to unchurched people with the lifesaving message of Jesus Christ through a contemporary church model.  We continue with the vision of seeking to fulfil the great commission by sharing the Gospel and the love of Jesus both locally and through our missionary partners.

If you want to know more about becoming our pastor, please phone 06 3770333 or email

We expect you would be a New Zealand citizen or have the appropriate visa requirements to work in New Zealand.
